Sermon Blogging: “God the Father Almighty like a Mammy”
>“Creo / I believe: What Christians Believe and Why it Matters” Sermon II “God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.” The God of Job is a God to be feared. The Maker of heaven and earth is a God to be revered and honored. The God of today’s psalmist is a God whose…

>Below is the first in a new summer sermon series at RUMC entitled: “Creo / I believe: What Christians Believe and Why it Matters” that will walk through the clauses of the Apostles’ Creed. The lectionary complied for this series can be found here, in a previous blog post. ————————– Today is Trinity Sunday, so…

Preaching in Ordinary Time
>For the second summer in a row, I am departing from the lectionary to preach a sermon series. To continue to give my congregation a balanced diet of Scripture, I have discovered that one of the great joys of doing this is in creating a lectionary to follow the theme of the series. I especially…

Reaching Those Who are Far From Christ
The MethoBlogosphere is buzzing with reflections on the departure of the Grace Point United Methodist Church leadership, and presumably all or most of the congregation with them. The Rev. Butts and the leadership team have started a new congregation called Grace Point Community Church, which began their first worship service apart from the denomination on…
Welcome to my blog! I love theology, life, writing … and the three things often intersect on this blog. I am not sure where I first heard it, but I have never forgotten the quote: “Give me anything and I can tell you about God.” I like that. It doesn’t matter what it is – movies, pop culture, politics, the church, music, motorcycles, basketball, the beach, the mountains, war, hunger, love, forgiveness, or people and personalities – it is all raw material for reflection on the mystery and majesty of God.
